Cornhole Design Ideas
If you will be making your own cornhole boards, the thought has probably crossed your mind on what kind of paint job to do. This decision will give your new game it's style. Sure everyone has half ugly cornhole boards but you want yours to stand out. Why not take the extra time and do the extra work to make your cornhole game the talk of the party?
Competing local sport teams
This is a well used idea, mostly being used for baseball or football team boards. An example would be a Cincinnati Bengals board and a Pittsburgh Stealer board (boo). But if we think out of the box a little you could make two local high school teams. Take it a step further and if you have two kids in sports, you could make let's say one kids football cornhole board and your other child's wrestling board. Family competition is always fun.
Music Theme
Many people are music lovers. In my house, we are all about family. It only makes sense to have cornhole boards to match your favorite singer, album artwork, etc. Some ideas might be using a poster on the cornhole board and using plexiglass on top to make a smooth surface, or maybe painting the from album cover on the boards.
The landing strip
I seen this idea put to use while camping and thought it is a great idea. Using a router tool you cut around the edges of the cornhole boards and then again around the hole. You then take rope lights and put down in the groves. I'm not sure how they cover (or if they even did) them but it looked crazy lit up at night. The boards were popping out at night. Now thinking out of the box, what about some type of glow in the dark cornhole bags?
There are endless ideas that you can do with your set to make it unique. Share how you designed your cornhole boards below in the comment section.
Labor Day Game Ideas
So it is the end of the summer, all the kids are either already back in school or getting ready to start. There is so much to do, close the pool, cover the outside furniture and so much more. But before we give up on all the warm weather we have had, there is still one more bash to have. Labor Day! Last chance to grill out (ok, not really) with family and friends, the ending to a great summer and of course for all the hard work you have done for the past year
So as I sit here in my hotel room thinking for fun things to do to keep my guests active and to make sure they have a good time, I started thinking of games to play. Sure there are the normal games like cornhole posted her and Ladder Golf that are always a hit, but I want something different. So what other games can be played in the backyard that will keep everyone interested? Well let's go over a couple:
Labor Day Games
Washer Toss
Washer toss is a game made out of PVC and a wood box. You use very large washers and toss them back and forth, trying to get them in the PVC pipe or at least the wood box. Your score depends on where it lands. I plan on making instructions on how to make your own, so make sure to check the "games" option on the top of the page every once in a while to see if they are up yet. But for now, here is a good set that you can purchase if you like.
This is considered a hillbilly backyard game. Come on, washers, PVC pipe and a wood box. Yea, I can see where they get that idea.
Big Birdie Golf
Big Birdie Golf is a great new backyard golf game that I just found out about this year. It is a game played with 4 people using real golf balls and clubs. Don't worry, you do not need to worry about hitting a golf ball through a window. The balls are called Birdie Balls, I'm sure you are getting the idea. Just think badminton
. The scoring nets are spaced apart like in cornhole and you hit the birdie balls with a chipping wedge, trying to hit them in the net. Your score depends on where it lands.
Birdie golf has taken over my backyard this year. The guys play it the whole day and the women do too, just not as much. I know for sure it will be one of the main games played again this Labor Day in my backyard.
I have yet to find out the best way to make Big Birdie Golf, but I will figure it out and post it for everyone. More information on Big Birdie Golf.
Horseshoes
Ok, I know what you are thinking, horseshoes? I don't want to put metal rods in my yard for people to fall on! Well, what if I told you that someone has came out with a rubber horseshoe set? I'm sure you have heard of this game so I will not explain how to play. People will have fun playing and you will not have to worry about digging up your yard. I will not be posting instructions on this game because you will need to mold rubber to make it, sorry
Just because you can't make it yourself doesn't mean that it is not worth having. This game is pretty cheap costing under $20. At the very least it might be a good game to keep the kiddo's busy with while the adults are playing Birdie Golf.
I hope these games has given you some ideas for your Labor Day party. I'm sure you friends and family will enjoy any of these three games. I wish you the best of luck and a blessed day.
What about you, what game will be played at your Labor Day party?

Outdoor Summer Games
Well spring is defiantly here and summer is just around the corner. If like my family you have already started having outdoor parties and grilling out. Now you just need some ideas on some things to do for your friends and family.
There are many outdoor games that are made for adults, these types of games tend to be known in one part of the country but not in others. Cornhole (bean bag toss) for instance was only known in Cincinnati Ohio for years. Recently it has been spreading around the country so odds are you already know about this game. Heck, they even had it on our cruise ship a couple months ago! My point is there are games like this all around the country that do not make it as big as Cornhole but is just fun.
Giant Jenga for instance, this is a game I have never heard of until I was on a job in the Turks and Cancos Islands. Giant Jenga is like the classic table top Jenga you find at Wal-Mart. But unlike the boring mini version the life sized game can be so much fun and can be played with as many people as you like.
Cornhole or Bean Bag Toss as mentioned above is a game that just 5 years ago was only known in the Cincinnati area. Though it has been around for years it can now be found in about every part of the country from east to west. This game party game is also known as Hillbilly Horseshoes. Most people make their own boards so they can customize the boards and bags. You will find that many boards are created to rival other friends. You can also find these online and in stores. It is a four person game and you can even play cornhole online to try it out.
Washer Toss is a game that we have not posted on the site here yet but is worth the mention. This is another tailgate gate for the hillbilly. It consists of a wood box, PVC pipe and large washers. It is a fun game that takes a more skill than you would think. We hope to have this game on the Make at Home site soon.
Beer Frisbee or Beersbee is a newer game to me that we just started playing about two years ago when a friend of the family brought it to our 4rth of July party. Once we played it, I had to make it. This party game takes a little more skill than most other games but it is easy/cheap to make and it is fun. Just think of what is involved, beer of course, Frisbee of course and long PVC pipes. It will take 2 teams of two working together to win this game. For more info on how to play Beersbi click here.
Well that is just a couple ideas on adult party games that can be played at a party. Most any of these can be turned into drinking games. Giant Jenga can be turned into many different versions… Enjoy your summer!
